A-Brush

A-Brush is an experimental Mixed Reality (MR) platform which celebrates the diversity of human energy.

By wearing a Quest 3 device, performers embark on a transformative experience, seeing their body motion become a trail of art that flows through space and time.

Making digital performance art into an embodied experience creates a new, more visceral and inclusive form of expression, telling compelling stories.

The platform is currently at v0.1 prototype stage, undergoing active development.

A-ccessible Futures

The latest body tracking technology is advancing accessibility by making provision for more personalised and adaptable interfaces.

The app fosters a welcoming atmosphere by focusing on simplicity and ease of use. The intuitive gesture-based system makes it easy for under-represented individuals in the immersive arts to express themselves physically, with no technical or artistic background needed.

A-Brush invites everyone to dive in—whether you’re a professional dancer, an artist exploring new creative mediums, or a curious mind experimenting with movement in XR.

A-ction Sculptures

I’ve been exploring the theme of energy in my personal artwork for the past 3 years. (@tompainter

I have taken a little of my inspiration from the abstract expressionist action painters of the 1950’s such as Jackson Pollock, aiming to create aspects of my art unconsciously, where beauty emerges from free, sweeping gestures.

Also my work has some cubist elements too, specifically by depicting subjects in multiple moments in time/

A-Brush can be seen as an immersive, 3D continuation of my drawing and painting practice.

A-bstract Force

If we consider the three dimensions of space along with the single dimension of time, we essentially have a 4D ‘spacetime‘ realm, represented in the resulting motion sculptures.

In Energy Wave Theory, spacetime is sometimes conceptualized as a medium that facilitates the transfer of energy within the universe. Similarly, A-Brush can be seen as a medium for channeling and expressing human energy through creative movement

A-natomy of the app

In v0.1 of the app, digital painting is triggered by audio, art is generated whenever the user or the environment makes a noise.

As you move, motion sculpture is created from your body, where ever a brush has been activated.

A-dventure Painting

I am very excited by the possibilities of merging the digital and physical worlds, allowing them to interact and overlap in a way that reshapes how we engage with art, pushing the boundaries of creative expression.

As we move into 2025, I want to continue to develop the app and to continue to experiment with the storytelling potential of mixed reality motion painting.

The goal is to enable new forms of expression.

v0.2 prototype coming soon…
